Turena Johnson Lane first achieved national running recognition at Luther College where she was a five-time NCAA Division III champion and nine-time All-American. In 2004 she won the USATF national 20K championship and was second American (sixth overall) at the Twin Cities Marathon. She was named to the 2005 U.S. World Championships marathon team and her lifetime best of 2:34:43 there helped the United States to sixth place in the team competition. Johnson Lane also ran a personal best of 33:22.69 for 10,000m at 2005 USATF championships. In 2006 she won the national 25K championship.
Turena Johnson was born in Brainerd, MN, and went to Brainerd High School. She graduated from Luther College where she was named Division III Female Athlete of the Year for 1996-97. Johnson Lane, who previously coached at Georgia Southern University and Ball State University, owns her own professional organizing business, Organized Spaces. She and her husband Todd own two dogs, Tanui and Tulu, named after Moses Tanui and Derartu Tulu.
